The common memory of things, the aesthetics of garbage by Eren Göktürk
Eren Göktürk's first solo exhibition "Pictures" which opened at OG Gallery, consists of 13 large-scale cinematographic photographs selected from works spanning six years. In the exhibition, which will be open until June 7, the artist meticulously creates each frame with references to environmental awareness, urbanization, philosophy, cinema, the history of photography, and literature. These works draw attention to the scope and breadth of consumption at a time when an average person now consumes thousands of photographs daily.
Göktürk's exhibition is based in Istanbul but carries global and multifaceted references. The culture of consumption, which reached its peak after the 2000s, is depicted with paper cups that have become symbols of fast living and fiber internet cables that are part of the cityscape. Göktürk creates a dramatic narrative between light and shadow in his compositions through careful placements.
