Ahmet Civelek
Ahmet Civelek is a Turkish conceptual artist based in New York City, born in 1988. Civelek received his BA in Fine Arts in Pratt Institute, and his postgraduate studies in the same field through the Byam Shaw School of Arts in Central Saint Martins.
Civelek’s body of work centres mainly around the destruction and tearing down of everyday materials. Showing ease and comfort around a vast array of materials, Civelek’s sculptures and installations explore expressive intent in manipulating the form. His artworks are concerned with defining and redefining destruction in relation to his experiences growing up in Istanbul at the turn of the Millenium. Using drones, photography, and industrial sandpaper, he creates artworks that investigate how humans interact with the tactility of their environments.
